Vous avez dit "horreur"? (DT Our Creative Corner)

"Forget cute cats and smiling pumpkins....

we want....

For this Halloween share with us some horror inspired
creations that are sure to send shivers down our spines.
Bring out your most grotesque stamps and embellishments....
....or perhaps take on the challenge of finding a way to transform
pretty stamps into something macabre.
Reach for the grungiest colours and textures....
Come over to the dark side of Halloween

Can you scare us?"

What I love on Halloween is carving a pumpkin to make a big lantern, then cooking the flesh to make a good creamy soup! No horror in that! So I chose  keeping the idea of the candle holder, but making my pumkin unpleasant.

I cut a rectangle in a serviette at my glass jar size.
Je l'ai coloré avec diverses encres.
I inked it with several inks.
J'ai posé quelques tampons textures et texte.
I put some texture and writing stamps.
I glued it with matte medium gel, then when dry, I covered it with a crackle glaze.

I drew zigzag eyes and mouth.
[ Yes I made it at last, with a marker, because the first time I did it directly on the serviette, and this is what happened when I glued it:
Alors là oui, c'était bien "l'horreur"!!!]
Indeed it was "horror"!!!]

I made run red-orange paint from the neck of the jar.

J'ai enfin placé une bougie à l'intérieur.
At last I placed a candle inside.
Et voilà!
And that's it!

  1. Lys, your scary I loved the crackle effect and the scary face on the lantern would give me nightmares!!!! It appears that drawing on the serviette and the subsequent bleeding was an effect you didnt like but I got to tell you that I loved that as well. Very creepy!

  4. Oh, Lys!! I LOVE this evil pumpkin candle holder!! The crackle is beautiful and the eyes and mouth are spooky indeed!! Those eyes make the smile very ghoulish and eerie--Oh, I bet this looks great all aglow in the dark! Even with your first attempt with the eyes and mouth kind of melting, that's creepy and I like it!! :) :) It's like it's materializing or dematerializing right in front of us! SPOOKY!!! Happy October to you, Lys!! XOXO-Shari

  5. Lys, I love the effects you've achieved on this candle holder! It really is quite scary once the candle is lit!! I really miss carving the pumpkin for my daughter now she's all grown up and left home.
Thanks also for letting me know the link to my blog was broken. Can't understand how that happened but blogger can act very strangely - perhaps it's the Halloween spirit!! xx

  6. What a clever variation on the halloween pumpkin - love the glow when it's lit, and the dripping around the top is really yucky (in a good way!).

  9. This is wonderful and so imaginative, Lys!

I would love to have a candle holder like this (so I might well "borrow" your great idea and part of the fabulous design - if I may!). The orange dribbles make it just perfect!!!! Hoooo (*shiver)!

    Hugs,
