Today is the end of the "French language (and French speaking) week". In these times of orthography reform (many cried foul about the organized disappearance of the circumflex accent), I wished to share with you my affection for our beautiful language. In my Art-Journal, I chose twelve words* among the threatened ones, twelve words I like, that won't be the same without their accent...
* flute, log, freshness, dinner, box, oyster, vault, crust, to be born, blackberry, must, island.
I had a background page in my AJ, made with a magazine page and stencils.
I added stamps, a stencil again (fleur de lys) and eggplant ink drips.
Words are written on a piece of book page covered with Gesso.
Encore quelques gouttes d'encre...
Ink drops again...
et voilà!
Bon dimanche!
Have a nice Sunday!
Lys.
The words are lovely Lys and your background is stunning! Hugs, Anne xx
RépondreSupprimerBeautiful celebration of these words which are going to change - I hadn't realised it was happening, and I'm very sad about it. I always love the look of the circumflex - like a little hat - so distinctly French. I can feel your sadness too in that beautiful background.

It is sad Lys -- like loosing part of your personal history. A blue page with tears staining your world and ending up as a puddle on your paper.

So sorry to hear about this.... English has none of these, so we do other silly things which I won't get into here. But this is a wonderful tribute page to your beautiful written (and spoken) language. xxx Lynn
RépondreSupprimerWell that is not good. Why the change? This is a wonderful tribute to the words and such an inspiring way to memorialize it. Gorgeous design! ~Niki
